Metaphysics can be considered as the mother of all the philosophies, religions and science topics; it has in common with them three basic study areas: “The being”, “God” and the “Knowledge science”.

In 1995, a group of friends with a shared interest in alternative spirituality and the arcane decided to start a group at their university to give like-minded people a place to gather and explore such topics. So the Society of Metaphysical Advancement (or SOMA as we lovinginly refer to it) was born and has been alive and kicking as a Registered Student Organization at Eastern Illinois University ever since. SOMA has evolved into an interfaith group that explores alternative religious beliefs and provides support for those members of the campus and Charleston community whose personal beliefs or interests might lie in these areas. Past members have identified themselves as Pagan, Jewish, Agnostic, Atheist, Christian or any number of other religious-orientations. They have all found SOMA.

Neurotransmitters are powerful chemicals that regulate numerous physical and emotional processes such as mental performance, emotional states and pain response. Virtually all functions in life are controlled by neurotransmitters. They are the brain's chemical messengers.Interactions between neurotransmitters, hormones, and the brain chemicals have a profound influence on overall health and well-being. When our concentration and focus is good, we feel more directed, motivated, and vibrant. Crystalline Sanctuary is a concept that has grown and expanded as we have grown and expanded.
