I can say no as I would not have a gun to shoot them with and never would. I would do all I could save her though.

Well good golly Ms Molly! Guess who supports owning a gun? None other than old Dalai Lama himself !!! The winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and the spiritual leader of one of the most peaceful major religions on this planet.
That tears it! I'm getting a gun.
In 2001, he answered the question of a girl in a Seattle school by saying that it is permissible to shoot someone with a gun in self-defense if that person was "trying to kill you," and he emphasized that the shot should not be fatal.

That sounds great, everybody has their own personal choice.
I would just say that if you have ever had any suicidal thoughts, ideations, or even make jokes about suicide, then owning a gun would be a bad idea. It becomes way to easy to go grab the gun and put it to your head when something doesn't go well. That is my only reservation toward that.
So just search your self and think about if you have had any hint of depression, and take your precautions. Otherwise, enjoy it!

When it comes to suicide the only thing that would cause me to consider it is if I was in a great deal of suffering and there was nothing the doctors could do. I don't know if I'd actually do it, but I would consider it.

gun can protect a person from harm and paradoxically gun can insist a person to do harm. we must not forget this paradox when designing gun policy.
death is a way of life. everybody will die one day in either way. controlling gun will not save life.
